On the fifth and final day of the Commonwealth Youth, Junior & Senior Weightlifting Championships at Gold Coast, Australia today, India bagged two yellow metals, one silver and two bronze to wrap up their successful campaign in style with a total haul of 37 medals, including 23 gold.

In the last five days of the Championships, 34 new records were created by the Indians. Pardeep Singh today qualified for next year’s Commonwealth Games with a gold medal. He finished on the top of the podium in the 105 kilogram category after lifting 147 kilograms in snatch and 195 kilograms in clean & jerk for a total of 342 kilograms.

In the process, he also overhauled the national senior record in the snatch event. In the men’s junior division 105 kilogram category, Lovepreet Singh finished with a gold medal with a total effort of 325 kilograms while Tejpal Singh Sandhu claimed a bronze. Gurdeep Singh who settled for a bronze medal, also created a new record in the snatch section. In the junior women plus 90 kilogram category,Purnima Pandey clinched a silver.
