Ministry of Sports to organise conference on restructuring NSS

Ministry of Sports and Youth is organizing a conference on restructuring of National Service Scheme (NSS) tomorrow in New Delhi. An official release said, the structure of the NSS has largely remained unchanged over the years.

The circumstances have been changing over the years, including the needs of the community and the aspirations of the young students. The objective of the conference is to generate ideas for restructuring of the Scheme, in order to make it more robust and effective.

National Service Scheme was introduced in 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service.

NSS was initially launched in 37 Universities involving about 40 thousand volunteers. The Ministry said, till last year NSS had about 36.58 lakh volunteers enrolled in 39,695 NSS units.
