Manav, Preyesh finish with silver medals


India’s Manav Thakkar had to settle with silver medal in the 2017 Thailand Junior and Cadet Open, held in Bangkok, after being handed a defeat by unseeded Fumiya Igarashi from Japan today.

India also had to be content with a silver medal in the Hopes Boys when Preyesh Suresh Raj went down against Iran’s Amir Mohammad Samadi 2-3 in a tough final.

The Japanese beat Thakkar 11-8, 6-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5, who had beaten higher-rated adversaries in the semifinal and quarterfinal.

The Iranian won against Preyesh 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-2.

Earlier, the Indians had won a bronze in Junior Boys team event.
