Japan Open Badminton Championship begins in Tokyo today

In Badminton, Japan Open Superseries tournament kicked off in Tokyo this morning. Qualification matches are being played today along with some Mixed Doubles opening round fixtures.

PV Sindhu, who won the Korea Open this Sunday, will spearhead the Indian challenge in the 6-day event. The Rio Olympics and World Championships Silver medalist is seeded 4th. She will begin her campaign tomorrow against Minatsu Mitani of Japan. Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth, who missed the Korea Open, will also return to action. While Saina will clash with Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, Srikanth will meet China’s Tian Houwei.

B Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy, Verma brothers – Sameer and Sourabh – and Ashwini Ponnappa are also among the Indian shuttlers who will be seen in action in the first round.
