BCCI rejects S Sreesanth’s plea for review of his life ban

Tainted pacer S Sreesanth’s plea for a review of his life ban has been summarily rejected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.(BCCI). The national cricket governing body says it will not compromise on its zero tolerance policy towards corruption. The BCCI informed Sreesanth of its decision in a letter which Sreesanth received on Sunday.

The letter was sent by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri after the cricketer wrote to the Committee Of Administrators (COA) appealing for revocation of his ban in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. BCCI also told Kerala High Court that a criminal court exonerating Sreesanth of spot fixing charges was not enough to lift the life time ban on him.

The BCCI was responding to a petition filed by Sreesanth challenging his life ban. The BCCI’s disciplinary committee headed by the present Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had slapped the life ban on Sreesanth in September 2013. In July 25,2015, a Delhi Sessions court had exonerated him in the spot fixing case registered by Delhi Police which invoked the Maharashtra Control of organised crimes Act MCOCA.

On account of life ban, the pacer cannot play even league cricke nor get access even for practice to any of the cricket grounds where the BCCI or thek state cricket associations have a stake.
