Public Safety is the Top Priority: ChlM Sai Directs Acceleration of Relief Work in Flood-Affected Districts

Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Dev Sai has instructed officials to take prompt action while reviewing the relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected districts of Bijapur, Sukma, Dantewada, and Bastar. The Chief Minister emphasized that public safety is the highest priority, and the administration must work with full commitment to ensure that no affected family faces inconvenience.
He directed that all people staying in relief camps be provided with timely meals, medical assistance, and essential supplies. He also ordered immediate assistance to flood-affected villages and instructed disaster control rooms to closely monitor the situation.
It is notable that continuous rainfall has disrupted daily life in four districts of the state. According to the Disaster Management Department, the highest rainfall was recorded in Dantewada on 26 and 27 August, with 93.7 mm and 118.4 mm respectively. Rainfall ranged from 35 to 109.3 mm in Sukma, 34.9 to 50.2 mm in Bijapur, and 67.3 to 121.3 mm in Bastar, affecting 25 villages in total.
Revenue Secretary and Disaster Relief Commissioner Mrs. Reena Babasaheb Kangale informed that 43 relief camps have been set up across the four districts for the affected people. A total of 2,196 individuals have been sheltered – 1,116 from Dantewada, 790 from Sukma, 120 from Bijapur, and 170 from Bastar. So far, the floods have resulted in 5 human casualties, loss of 17 livestock, partial damage to 165 houses, and complete destruction of 86 houses. Relief and rescue efforts are being carried out by the Home Guard and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), and food arrangements have been made for those staying in the camps. The Revenue and Disaster Management Department is maintaining continuous contact with district administrations based on the flood situation and is providing necessary assistance. In Sukma district, trained community volunteers (“Disaster Friends”) are assisting the administration in flood response efforts.
Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Dev Sai expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives and property, assuring that affected families will receive immediate financial assistance and that rehabilitation work will be prioritized. He stated that the administration and relief teams must remain constantly active, ensure timely aid to every person in need, and deliver relief materials without delay.
CM Sai appealed to citizens to follow the instructions issued by the administration and to immediately contact the local control room in case of any emergency. He expressed confidence that with the joint efforts of the administration and the public, the disaster will be brought under control soon and normal life will be restored in the affected areas.
