The Pradhanmantri Suryaghar Yojna, which is transforming rooftops across India, is proving equally beneficial for Chhattisgarh. Beyond promoting environmental conservation, the scheme has brought much-needed relief from rising electricity costs.
Anjali Singh, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Bilaspur, recently installed a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar plant at her home. The total cost amounted to ₹1.85 lakh, of which she received a subsidy of ₹78,000 from the Central Government. “Before installing the solar plant, our monthly electricity bill was between ₹2,500 and ₹3,000,” she said. “Now, it has been reduced by almost half. This has brought significant financial relief.” She credited the shift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on renewable energy and conservation of natural resources. She also welcomed the proactive role of the Chhattisgarh Government, which has partnered with the Centre to extend further benefits to consumers.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s cabinet has approved an additional subsidy of up to ₹30,000 to promote the adoption of renewable energy under the Pradhanmantri Suryaghar Yojna.
Singh recalled the inconvenience of frequent power outages in the past. “After switching to solar, those problems have virtually disappeared,” she said, adding that the system was installed within ten days of her application. She thanked the government for the initiative, highlighting that solar rooftop systems are low-maintenance and do not involve extra costs. She urged more households to embrace the scheme.
*Generous Subsidies and Easy Registration*
Under the Pradhanmantri Suryaghar Yojna, rooftop solar installations are connected to the electricity grid via net metering. Consumers can feed surplus power back into the grid, potentially bringing their bills down to zero and even earning additional income.
The subsidy structure under the Pradhanmantri Suryaghar Yojna provides significant financial support to households. For a 1-kilowatt system, beneficiaries receive ₹30,000 from the Centre and ₹15,000 from the State, amounting to a total subsidy of ₹45,000. In the case of a 2-kilowatt installation, the subsidy increases to ₹60,000 from the Centre along with ₹30,000 from the State. For a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar plant, households can avail ₹78,000 from the Central Government and an additional ₹30,000 from the State Government, bringing the total subsidy to ₹1.08 lakh.
