Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today presented a gift of agricultural projects worth over ₹41,000 crore to the country’s farmers at the main function held at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. On this occasion, he launched two new schemes: Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission. This includes ₹30,000 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana and ₹11,000 crore for the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission. Additionally, Shri Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for more than 1,100 projects in the fields of Agricultural Infrastructure Fund, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Food Processing. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai witnessed the launch of this campaign by virtually connecting with thousands of farmers through video conferencing from the Farmers’ Auditorium located on the campus of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in the capital, Raipur. Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, along with Chief Ministers, Agriculture Ministers, MPs, and MLAs from various states, were also virtually connected.
The Prime Minister said that on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh, the country is scripting a new history of agricultural self-reliance today. The two schemes launched today are the beginning of a new era of strengthening the country’s food providers (annadatas) and agricultural self-reliance. This initiative will prove to be a milestone in making farming profitable and modern. He informed that under the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission, projects worth over ₹11,000 crore are being started. The Prime Minister noted that in recent years, India’s agricultural exports have increased, and auxiliary agricultural activities, including honey production, animal husbandry, and fisheries, have grown.
The Prime Minister informed that through the Aspriational District Programme, which focuses on districts lagging in development parameters, rapid improvement work has been carried out in the fields of roads, electricity, health, and education. Similarly, under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, special action plans will be created and implemented for 100 districts in the country that are lagging in farming. He said that the income of farmers and the rural economy will be given new strength through 36 new schemes. The Prime Minister stated that with the participation of young farmers, the face of farming will change, and the economic condition of farmers will be further strengthened.
The Prime Minister said that the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission has been launched with the aim of empowering farmers and the coming generation. This mission is not only a step towards self-reliance in the agricultural sector but also an effort to ensure nutritional security in the country. Protein is essential for physical and mental development, and for this, we must collectively establish a robust system for pulse production. He said that currently, India is not fully meeting its pulse requirements. The Pulses Self-Reliance Mission will increase pulse production and directly benefit approximately two crore pulse-producing farmers.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that it is a matter of great happiness that three districts of Chhattisgarh—Jashpur, Korba, and Dantewada—have also been included in the two new farmer-friendly schemes. For this, on behalf of the three crore people of Chhattisgarh, I specially express my gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He congratulated and extended best wishes to the farmers of the state for these two new schemes. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that these schemes will change the face of farming and bring economic prosperity. On the occasion of the schemes’ launch, Chief Minister Shri Sai inspected the stalls set up by the Agriculture Department and also handed over the keys of tractors and agricultural equipment to farmers under the Agricultural Engineering Sub-Mission Scheme, along with granting subsidy cheques.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer, Hail Science) is prevalent today. A major reform has occurred in GST. After the GST reform, one day I visited a tractor showroom, and here I found that an amount ranging from ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 is being saved on one tractor. The Chief Minister said that during the stall inspection, he met a farmer brother who bought a harvester and received a benefit of more than ₹1 lakh in savings. It is very heartening to see our farmer brothers getting so much benefit.
Shri Sai informed that the government is continuously striving for the development of farmers in Chhattisgarh. We have fulfilled every promise made to the farmers. Paddy was procured at ₹3100 per quintal, and the outstanding bonus for two years was paid. He informed that by prioritizing farmers, our government sanctioned a lump sum of ₹2800 crore to repair more than 1500 irrigation schemes in the state. The Chief Minister said that many important works were done to strengthen agricultural schemes during the government of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Kisan Credit Card is the biggest example of this. The Chief Minister said that most of the farmers in Chhattisgarh are marginal farmers, and they have greatly benefited from the government’s farmer-friendly schemes. He said that the state government is continuously striving for the welfare of farmers, and this scheme is a concrete initiative in that direction.
