According to the guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Yojana, if multiple farmer families are registered under a single landholding, each eligible family will be entitled to receive up to ₹6,000 per year as financial support. This is subject to their meeting the eligibility criteria laid out under the scheme. Each family will receive a minimum of ₹6,000 annually, directly transferred to their bank accounts.

Under the eligibility conditions of the scheme, a ‘farmer family’ is defined as comprising a husband, wife, and minor children. If several such families are connected to the same landholding, the benefits will not be determined by the number of land accounts, but rather by individual family units. Therefore, distinct families sharing the same land record will be independently entitled to receive the financial assistance.

Launched by the Government of India in 2019, the objective of the PM-Kisan scheme is to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers across the country. The amount is provided in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each.

In Chhattisgarh, under the 20th installment of the scheme disbursed in February 2025, a total of ₹553.34 crore was transferred to 25.47 lakh eligible farmers in the state. Millions of farmer families across India are currently benefiting from this scheme.

To ensure transparency and that the benefits reach only eligible farmers, the assistance amount is transferred directly to their bank accounts via a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has clarified that no eligible farmer family should be excluded from the scheme. State and district administrations are regularly verifying eligibility and adding new beneficiaries accordingly.

However, not all farmers are eligible for the PM-Kisan scheme. Certain categories are excluded, including:

All institutional landholders

Current and former holders of constitutional posts

Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs), Ministers, Mayors, and District Panchayat Chairpersons

Officials and employees of Central and State government ministries/departments (except Class IV/multi-tasking staff)

Retired employees receiving pensions of ₹10,000 or more

Income tax-paying families

The scheme is targeted specifically at genuine small and medium farmer families, ensuring they receive ₹6,000 annually as financial support.
