A Chandigarh court has held Jagtar Singh Tara guilty in a case pertaining to the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. The court of additional district and session judge JS Sidhu will pronounce the quantum of the sentence today. The trial, which was going on inside the Burail Jail in Chandigarh, concluded yesterday.

Tara had, earlier, confessed to his involvement in the case during a hearing in January.

In August 1995, the then Chief Minister Beant Singh was killed in an explosion outside the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh. A Punjab police employee had acted as a human bomb in the incident. Police had taken nine accused in custody, of whom the fate of eight has already been decided.
