As many as eleven labourers were killed and several others were injured, when a massive blast took place at a granite quarry at Hathibelagal village in Aluru Mandal of Kurnool District in Andhra Pradesh on Friday night. It was suspected that detonators, to be used for blasting at the quarry, were stored at the shed and they got exploded.
The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu announced an ex gratia of Rs.5 Lakh each to those kin of deceased in the incident.
The court in its 30th July order said the rule should be struck down as it went against Article 42 of the Constitution, which provides for “just and humane conditions of work and maternity relief”, and Section 27 of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961.Taking a humanitarian view, it ordered that the petitioner be granted leave.
