Development is gaining momentum in Bastar, one of the most challenging regions in the country. After receiving approval from the Central Government, the Final Location Survey (FLS) for the proposed 160.33 km-long railway line from Kothagudem (Telangana) to Kirandul (Chhattisgarh) has reached its final stage. Of this, 138.51 km will pass through the Naxal-affected districts of Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, which have so far remained disconnected from the railway network.
This project will not only ease transportation but also bring transformational socio-economic development to the region.
The Indian Railways is conducting the survey using state-of-the-art LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is closely monitoring this project, considering it critically important for internal security and regional development.
The Indian Railways has expressed special gratitude to the Government of Chhattisgarh and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, whose guidance and coordination helped accelerate the survey work once again. This railway route is set to become a symbol of security, inclusion, and prosperity for the Bastar region in the near future.
