President Pranab Mukherjee has said that unity in diversity among common people is the greatest strength of India. Mr Mukherjee said, despite ethnic diversity, Indian people are living under one flag and one constitution.
Inaugurating the Namami Brahmaputra festival in Guwahati, the President refused to buy the argument that people of this country are intolerant. He said that the rivers are the carrier’s of the civilization. President said that the culture and economy of North East flourished from the Brahmaputra. He stressed to explore business opportunities with foreign countries including ASEAN.
Attending the event, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Togbey stressed that cooperation between Assam and Bhutan must go deeper. He fondly remembered the historic friendly relations between the two.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal said, Brahmaputra is the lifeline of Assam and it has given special status to the State. He stressed upon exploring the possibilities and potential of Brahmaputra.
The five day long event is being organized in 21 districts of Assam by the state government. Various cultural programs, exhibitions and film shows are being organized as part of the festival. This event is likely to serve as a platform to showcase Assam’s tremendous potential in trade,tourism and culture.
