Two BSF personnel were today martyred, and 11 civilians, including a policeman, injured as Pakistani forces resorted to heavy mortar shelling along the International Border in Jammu.

BSF sources averred that the forces across the border started unprovoked firing in Pargwal and Kanachak sectors around 2 last night. The exchange of fire continued till today afternoon.

In the cross-border firing a BSF ASI S.N.Yadav and a Jawan Ct. V.K.Pandey were injured seriously who later succumbed to injuries. The BSF troops guarding the border retaliated effectively and the intermittent exchange of fire continued till this afternoon.

Terming the fresh ceasefire violation as unfortunate, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti told reporters in Srinagar that the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan should hold a dialogue again and stop the bloodshed.

On Tuesday, the DGMOs had agreed to fully implement the ceasefire pact of 2003 in letter and spirit forthwith to stop border skirmishes in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan forces have once again targeted the Indian positions and civilian areas simultaneously with heavy mortars which has triggered panic among the border residents.

However, no cross-border firing has, so far been reported, from R.S.Pura, Arnia, Ramgarh, Samba and Hiranagar sectors, a high alert has been sounded along the entire International Boundary in the state.
