Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018 scheduled to be introduced in Lok Sabha today

The Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018 and the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Bill, 2018 are scheduled to be introduced in the Lok Sabha today. Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi will move the Trafficking of Persons Bill to prevent trafficking of persons, especially women and children.

The bill will provide care, protection and rehabilitation to the victims of trafficking, to prosecute offenders and to create a legal, economic and social environment for the victims.

The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 and the Chit Funds (Amendment) Bill, 2018 will come up for consideration and pass in the Lower House.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2017, the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013, the State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Bill, 2017 and the Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill, 2018 are listed for consideration and passing.

The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha in April last year. The bill proposes significant changes in the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. It proposes high penalties for various traffic offences, three-year jail for parents of minors drivers causing fatal accidents and a tenfold increase in compensation for families of accident victims. The bill also makes Aadhaar mandatory for getting a driving licence and vehicle registration.
