Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said there is no dearth of resources in the country, however he emphasised the need for good governance. Mr. Modi said, only having the best ideas for development are not enough, but initiatives need to be completed on time so that fruits of development reach the targeted beneficiaries.

The Prime Minister said, efforts have to be comprehensive and outcome driven. Addressing a function to mark the birth centenary celebrations of Nanaji Deshmukh in New Delhi today, Mr Modi called for making urban facilities available in villages.

He said, lack of sanitation facilities is adversely affecting the development journey of villages and the government is working to overcome this and build toilets in rural areas.

Mr Modi said, the strength of a democracy cannot be measured on the basis of number of voters but the real essence of a democracy is ‘Jan Bhagidari’ and integrating people in the development journey of cities and villages. He emphasised that regular ‘Samvad’ is required among people and the governments.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi offered tributes to Nanaji Deshmukh and Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan on their birth anniversaries. The Prime Minister said Loknayak Jay Prakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh, distinguished themselves and devoted their lives towards the betterment of the nation. He recalled Nanaji Deshmukh, who worked hard to make villages self reliant and bring them out of poverty.

Mr. Modi said both Nanaji Deshmukh and Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan dedicated their lives for people and the nation. He also said that Jay Prakash Narayan was never interested in power politics and was an inspiration for the youth of the country.

The Prime Minister also launched several projects related to rural and local development. He launched DISHA dashboard portal for coordination and monitoring of development works at the district level. He also launched the Gram Samvad App which will carry information on the progress of rural development works at the Gram Panchayat level.
