PM asks all state govts to accord high priority to CCTNS to ensure better law and order

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all state governments to accord high priority to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) to ensure better law and order.

During a meeting of PRAGATI on Wednessday, Mr Modi said high priority should be given to this network, so that maximum benefit could be taken from it, in the interest of law and order. He urged the states to accord high priority to this network, so that maximum benefit could be taken from it.

Our Correspondent reports that CCTNS is a project of the Central government for creating a comprehensive and integrated system for effective policing through e-governance.

Our correspondent reports that the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems aims to integrate all the data and records of crime into a core application software, spread across 29 states and 7 union territories of the country.

It also aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing through adopting of principle of e-Governance and creation of a nationwide networking infrastructure.

The objectives of the CCTNS is to make the Police functioning citizen friendly and improve delivery of citizen-centric services through effective usage of Information and communication technology.

The project envisages interconnecting of about 15 thousand police stations and additional five thousand offices of supervisory police officers across the country. It entails digitization of data related to FIR registration, investigation and charge sheets in all police stations.
