Jharkhand, November 2
In a major setback to Maoists movement, police have reportedly arrested a hardcore naxal, who was accused of Chaibasa jailbreak, executing deadly naxal attacks and carrying cash reward of Rs 25 lakh, in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, police said today.
Police sourced averred that the arrested naxal has been identified as Maoists area commander Sandeep Da alias Motilal Soren. Jharkhand government had announced reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head. Similarly, Odisha government has also announced cash reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head.
According to police, acting on a tip-off that naxal commander Sandeep was watching football tournament being hosted in a village falling in of Jetia police station, a police team swung into action and succeeded in nabbing him. He was associated with the banned organisation past several years and was active in Jharkhand as well as Odisha.
Sandeep was the mastermind of Chaibasa jailbreak in 2011, police said, elaborating that he was arrested by police in past but he managed to escape Chaibasa jail.
Police further informed that he was allegedly involved in various crimes and deadly naxal attacks including killing of a forest officer in West Singhbhum, attacking a police party leaving over dozen of security personnel dead, targeting convoy of SP Praveen Singh, executing a blast leaving around 10 jawans dead in Goilkeral police limits, killing of sub-inspector Ajit Bardhan in Odisha and other.
Recently, the naxal commander has allegedly burns two villagers alive in a village falling under Jetia police station, added police.
