
In Jammu & Kashmir, the mastermind of the Amarnath Yatra attack Abu Ismail was killed along with his accomplice in a brief gunfight in Nowgam area of Srinagar outskirts today afternoon.
Addressing a media conference in Srinagar this evening, Inspector General Police Kashmir Muneer Khan said that Kashmir operational chief of militant outfit Lashkar e Toiba Abu Ismail was killed in an anti militancy operation that was launched following specific input about his presence.
He said Ismail was mastermind of the attack that had left eight Yatris dead and 19 others injured in the July 10 evening attack on Yatra bus at Botengoo Anantnag along Srinagar Jammu national highway.
A group of four militants had carried out attack on bus that was returning from Baltal after performing Yatra. J&K police had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Amarnath attack case. Police had already arrested three local co-conspirators who had provided logistical support to the group of attackers on Amarnath Yatra bus.
