
In Jammu & Kashmir, two civilians comprising a senior citizen and a woman were killed while scores were reported injured after suspected militants lobbed hand grenade towards motorcade of state Minister Naeem Akhter at bus stand of Tral town in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday. Another critically injured civilian is being treated specially at the hospital.
The deceased old man was identified as Retired teacher Ghulam Nabi Trag and woman as Pinty Kour, both residents of Tral subdivision.
As per information received, as soon as Minister Naeem Akhter’s motorcade reached near Tral Bus Stand after inaugurating a bridge at Chandrigam area in Tral subdivision, unknown militants lobbed a grenade that exploded on the road in busy bus stand area.
They said two critically injured persons later succumbed. Sources said after grenade was lobbed towards motorcade its splinters hit at least two vehicles injuring one of the drivers while two engineers sustained minor injuries.
More than a dozen other civilians besides some policemen and paramilitary personnel were reported injured with grenade splinters who were rushed to the sub district, district and Srinagar hospitals for advanced treatment.
At least six pellet injured civilians were shifted to Srinagar SMHS hospital for further treatment.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack so far. More details are awaited as civilian causalities may increase.
