
India will make an official request to Malaysia for the extradition of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told media in New Delhi today that India is completing its internal legal process in this regard.
Zakir Naik has been reportedly given permanent residency in Malaysia. Last week, NIA had charged Naik with promoting enmity between communities.
Responding to a media query on China blocking international consensus on listing Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar as global terrorist, Mr Kumar said, India will continue its fight against terrorism and the like-minded countries are with it on the issue. He said, decision to block consensus by a particular country should not be seen as end of fight against terror.
On Indian national Hamid Nehal Ansari who is in Pakistan’s custody, the spokesperson said, India has not been given consular access so far despite making request for the same for 52 times. He said, Pakistan’s reply on the subject is still awaited.
Asked about attack on Indian students at Milan in Italy, Mr Kumar said India has already taken up the matter with authorities there and investigation is underway.
