I&B Ministry gives its nod for temporary live uplinking of IPL tournament beginning tomorrow

Ahead of IPL 2018 that kick-starts tomorrow, defending champion Mumbai Indians have hailed the introduction of the Decision Review System and a mid-season transfer window in the tournament.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai yesterday, coach of the team, Mahela Jayawardene said, a football-style mid-season transfer window is a great option and an evolution of the franchise model going forward.

Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma said the transfer window will give the teams an opportunity to see what they need in the squad and other teams will also be looking at what players can get.

However, this window would only be open for uncapped players and those who have played no more than two matches till the halfway stage of the tournament. The transfer will be open for roughly five days.

Doordarshan is to telecast the XIth edition of IPL Cricket tournament which begins tomorrow. As per information received, the initiative came after the Board of Control for Cricket in Indian, BCCI, had reportedly written to Union Minister Smriti Irani seeking her intervention in getting the nod for live uplinking of the tournament. The BCCI’s letter to the minister was reportedly a follow-up of an application filed earlier by Star India Pvt Ltd, which holds the broadcast rights of IPL.
