
The Centre has asked the Haryana Government to urgently initiate an enquiry into alleged overcharging by Gurgaon-based Fortis hospital from family members of a patient who reportedly died of dengue recently.
In a letter to Principal Secretary, Health of Haryana, Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan said, the report in this regard should be submitted to the Health Ministry within two weeks.
She said, the details of treatment and the charges levied by the hospital needs to be ascertained and expert opinion regarding the reasonability must be taken on the details provided by the hospital.
She said, in case of any overcharging, negligence or malfeasance is made out on the part of the hospital, exemplary action needs to be taken immediately to reassure the general public and to lend credence to the healthcare system.
Ms Sudan said, such incidents have an extremely deleterious impact on the faith of the general public in the healthcare system in the country.
