The Government has denied any interference in the functioning of newspaper industry in the country.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that the Press Council of India preserves the freedom of the press.
It also maintains and improves the standards of newspapers and news agencies in the country.
He said the Council has framed norms of journalistic conduct for adherence by the media.
Mr Rathore said these norms cover the principles and ethics of journalism including the guidelines of news reporting.
