In Assam, there is no respite from flood fury in the state as surging water washed away a portion of NH 15 at Gendheli in Lakhimpur district last night affecting road communication.

Several rivers including the Brahmaputra and Jia Bharali are flowing above the danger level. Road communication has been snapped at many places due to flood and erosion.

Official sources said that nearly 5 lakh people from 15 districts are affected in floods. Over 1 lakh 20 thousand people have been affected at Lakhimpur district alone. Several wildlife parks are also reeling under the fury of flood.

Forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma has visited Kaziranga national park and met senior officials. She instructed park authority to take all measures to prevent poaching. Drones have been deployed at Kaziranga to monitor movement of animals.

Nearly 18 thousand people have taken shelter at government run relief camps in eight districts. Boats have been pressed into services in relief and rescue measures.
