The Election Commission of India, ECI, today launched Electors Photo Identity Card, EPIC, with Braille on it to ensure participation of visually impaired persons in the electoral process.
This innovative card was launched by Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat at the last session of a National Consultation on Accessible Election organised by ECI in New Delhi.
Addressing the Consultation, Mr Rawat urged all election officers to work hard at ground level to ensure that Persons with Disabilities, PwDs could participate in election with utmost ease.
He said, disability coordinators will be deployed at district level to assist PwDs at the time of election. He also added that the commission will develop a mobile App to educate the persons with disabilities.
