Dacoity, robbery and drugging incidents decreased in 2016 compared to 2015 in Railways

The incidents of dacoity, robbery and drugging reported in long distance trains over Railways have decreased in 2016 as compared to 2015. However, there has been small increase in the case of theft of passengers belonging during the period.

This information was given by Minister of State for Railway, Rajen Gohain in the Lok Sabha today. He said, policing on railway being a state subject, prevention of crime, registration of cases, there investigation and maintenance of law and order in Railway premises as well as running trains.

State governments discharge this responsibility through Government Railway Police (GRP) and District police. He said, Railway protection force supplements the efforts of GRP to provide better protection and security of passenger area and passengers and related matters.
