Severe Cyclone Mora hit Bangladesh today packing winds of up to 117 kilometres per hour after authorities evacuated up to a million people from from affected areas.

The cyclone formed after heavy rains in Sri Lanka caused floods and landslides that killed at least 180 people.

The local Met office has issued advice for hoisting Distant Cautionary Signal number two at Paradip and Gopalpur ports in the state and asked the fishermen not to venture into the sea.

In Tripura, Meteorological department has issued a warning that heavy rainfall associated with squally wind with speed of 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph may occur today under the influence of Mora.
