
Congress today accused the BJP of pressurizing the Election Commission, EC to defer the announcement of poll schedule for Gujarat assembly.
Briefing media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi alleged that BJP has – what it called – denigrated the authority and power of the EC.
Polit Bureau of CPI(M) has also termed the Election Commission’s decision not to announce the poll schedule of Gujarat Assembly elections along with Himachal Pradesh as strange.
The party said, this has been the general practice so far make joint announcement, when elections are due within a period of six months.
BJP, on the other hand, today hit out at Congress for questioning the Election Commission for not announcing Gujarat Assembly polls along with Himachal Pradesh.
The party said, in 2007 and 2012 also, when Congress was in power at Center, the polling in the two states was conducted on different dates.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi, senior party leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the way fingers are being raised on Constitutional bodies including Election Commission without any basis, is uncalled for.
