The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has strongly opposed the discharge applications moved by former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother Kalanithi Maran in the telephone exchange case.
The CBI contended that a chargesheet was filed against them and other accused after a thorough investigation and supporting evidences. The CBI insisted that the discharge applications moved by the duo should be dismissed.
According to the premier investigative agency, Dayanidhi Maran had misused his position as a Union telecom minister from June 2004 to December 2006 and had installed a private telephone exchange at his residences in Chennai and used it for business transactions involving Sun Network causing a loss of Rs.1.78 crore to the Exchequer.
