
BJP today said there are serious charges against former Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
Briefing media in New Delhi today, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said it cannot be an oversight that Chidambaram forgot to disclose his assets abroad. She said for sometime now, Income Tax authorities have been taking action against the senior Congress leader.
Ms Sitharaman said Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is himself out on bail should come out and inform whether he is going to investigate this case involving one of his leaders.
Ms Sitharaman said there are media reports that Chidambaram has properties in UK and the US and 21 bank accounts. She said the Congress leader had not informed about these in his 2016 affidavit.
Defence Minister said during Income Tax investigations, it has come to notice that he has properties worth 5.37 crore rupees in Cambridge, 80 lakh rupees in the UK and 3.2 crore rupees in the US
