Bhubaneswar, Jan 1
Intensifying its campaign against Odisha’s Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy for his comment and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for keeping his lip tight over the issue, BJP Mahila Morcha on Tuesday attempted to gherao the official residence of CM.
Members of BJP Mahila Morcha heading towards CM House holding bangles in their hand were prevented by police near Traffic Chhak (Traffic Square) as a preventive measure. Aggrieved by the prevention, members of the morcha reportedly had scuffle with police personnel following which they were taken into custody.
It may be recalled that following the acquittal of his siblings in connection with Pipili gang rape and murder case, Pradeep Maharathy had said “My sympathies are with the victim but I honour the court’s judgement. I had said that truth will prevail.”
The comment has caught sharp reaction from opposition parties and BJP has launched series of campaign demanding CBI probe into the Pipili gang rape case and removal of Pradeep Maharathy from ministerial post.
Notably, alleging dereliction in investigation of Pipili gang rape and murder case, the morcha yesterday staged demonstration outside crime branch headquarter.
Naveen-led BJD government in the state has failed to ensure protection to women and girls in different parts of the state, alleged BJP leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar.
