The Election Commission will announce poll schedule for the post of Vice-President today. The term of the incumbent, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, is ending on 10th of August this year.
Mr Ansari held the post of Vice President for two consecutive terms. He was first elected to the post on 7th of August, 2007 and then re-elected in 2012.
The Vice President is elected by an electoral college comprising members of both the houses of Parliament. Meanwhile, campaigning for the Presidential polls is underway.
The NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind and Opposition nominee Meira Kumar, are the main contenders in the Presidential election.
Scrutiny of nomination papers filed by the candidates will take place today. Polling will be held on 17th of July and counting of votes will take place on 20th of July.
