
Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari today said government aims to promote transport and tourism through rivers. He was speaking on the occasion of preparation of an action plan for development of Cruise Tourism in the country.
He said the action plan will be discussed in depth at the workshop today following which a policy will soon be drafted after consultations with stakeholders. Mr Gadkari said the Brahmaputra river will be dredged to boost trade and tourism with South East Asian nations.
He also said government is trying to bring alternative fuel like ethanol in Shipping, which is cost effective, pollution free and indigenous. Mr Gadkari said government is keen on pushing development of cruise tourism on fast track mode. As per information received, India presently has a small share of the world cruise tourism market.
