8 terrorists killed in encounters with security forces in Jammu & Kashmir

In Jammu and Kashmir, two hardcore terrorists, including dreaded Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, were killed in an encounter in Tral area of Pulwama district today.

Sabzar was successor of slain Hizbul Mujhaideen commander Burhan wani who was killed last year. Security forces said, terrorists fired upon an Army patrolling party which triggered a brief encounter and there was a lull during the night.

In the morning, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, which is still underway.

Tension has gripped south Kashmir as news of killing of Sabzar and other terrorist spread out.Mobile and other telecommunication services have been snapped in Tral and adjoining areas.

In another operation, six unidentified terrorists were killed by security forces foiling a major infiltration bid along the LoC in Rampur sector of Baramulla district.

Troops repulsed an infiltration attempt by heavily-armed gunmen who were trying to sneak into this side of the LoC. Defence sources said, search and sanitization operation is underway.

Administration has decided to impose curfew in seven police station areas of the city tomorrow as a pre-emptive measure to prevent spread of violent protests which took place today.

District Magistrate of Srinagar Farooq Lone said, the curfew will be imposed in Khanyar, Kralkhud, Maharaj Gunj, Maisuma, Nowhatta, Rainawari and Safakadal. Educational institutions in the city will remain closed on Monday.

Mr Lone, however, said, the admit cards of students appearing in CET and other competitive examinations tomorrow will be treated as curfew passes. The staff posted as invigilators can use their identity cards for reaching the centres and back home, he added.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Ganderbal district have imposed restrictions on movement of people under Section 144 of CrPC.
