Prabhu rules out privatization of railways

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has ruled out privatisation of the Railways and said the railways is a mode of last resort for common people for transportation and the Government will have to bear the burden as well as the responsibility.

Highlighting the issue of the public service obligation, the Minister said, somebody must pay for that as it happens globally.

He said, each country has a different system of accounting public service and the Government cannot ignore the common man’s interest. He said Indian Railways has asked the NITI Aayog to look into the public service obligation aspect.
