BJP today said the tweet by the Head its IT Cell, Amit Malviya, about Karnataka poll schedule before the actual announcement by the Election Commission, was based on the report of a TV news channel.
Following controversy over the issue, a BJP delegation led by party leader and Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi met the Commission in New Delhi this afternoon.
Later, talking to reporters, Mr. Naqvi said the tweet had no intention to undermine the stature of the Election Commission and its impartiality and independence are equally important for BJP.
He said, a Karnataka Congress leader had also tweeted the same thing.
The Minister, however, said, he agrees that Mr. Malviya should not have tweeted. Another party leader Bhupendra Yadav charged the Congress with unnecessarily making an issue out of it.
Amit Malviya has also written to the ECI, clarifying that his tweet was based on the news broadcast by an English news channel.
