India’s first consignment of wheat assistance to Afghanistan has reached the Chabahar port in Iran.

In a tweet, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, a welcome ceremony was held at the port on Wednesday, which was attended by dignitaries from India, Iran and Afghanistan.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani had flagged off the shipment on Sunday through a joint video conference.

The Chabahar port is likely to ramp up trade between India, Afghanistan and Iran in the wake of Pakistan denying transit access to New Delhi for trade with the two countries.
