Mobile Medical Units bridge healthcare gap in remote Zones, over 40000 patients benefited in more than 2400 camps
RAIPUR, Feb 28
In a significant push for rural and accessible healthcare, mobile medical units being run in Chhattisgarh under Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivashi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) have successfully conducted over 2400 medical camps in remote as well as naxal-infested districts in the state.
Over 40000 patients have been benefited in camps conducted across the state so far, said Chetan Sharma, project director of PM-JANMAN project in the state, adding that the patients have received treatment and consultation through these ambulances.
Sharma further informed that the medical team collectively comprising 57 MBBS doctors as well as same numbers of nurses and lab technicians are addressing various health conditions, ranging from seasonal illness to chronic diseases. The MMUs , which are fully equipped with necessary equipment, is like a hospital on wheels and offering 25 types of lab tests are proving a boon to the PVTG population.
The primary ailments treated by MMUs include skin diseases (like ringworm, itching, bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, trichomoniasis and others), non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like management of hypertension and diabetes, infections (including viral fever, typhoid and other common ailments).
Moreover, the MMU is also offering reproductive and child health service, maternal care, antenatal care, identification and referral of high-risk pregnancies, and post-natal check-ups, added the project director.
Similarly, the MMUs also offer facilities of healthcare related to child health that include screening for malnutrition, counselling, and treatment of common childhood illnesses such as diarrhea, ARI/pneumonia, asthma, and complications related to measles.
According to the project director, the mobile medical units have specifically targeted difficult terrains and sensitive zones to ensure no citizen is left without care. The areas covered include- Narayanpur and Orcha; Bade Rajpur (Kondagaon); Kusmi and Shankargarh (Balrampur); Antagarh and Bhanupratappur (Kanker); Bodla (Kabirdham); Mainpur, Deobhog, and Chhura (Gariyaband); Nagri (Dhamtari); Pali and Poundi Uproda (Korba), Gaurella (GPM) and Pithora.
