Members of the Legislative Assembly pay tribute to Former Lok Sabha Speaker and Former Union Minister Shivraj Patil

Members of the Legislative Assembly paid tribute to former Speaker of the Lok Sabha and former Union Minister Shri Shivraj Patil. He passed away on December 12 in Latur. Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Leader of the Opposition Dr Charandas Mahant, ministers, and members observed silence in the House.
Recalling the long political life of late Shri Shivraj Patil, Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh stated that he was elected to the Lok Sabha for 7 consecutive terms. He held charge of several important ministries and made a significant contribution to the television broadcast of parliamentary proceedings.
Remembering his tenure as Union Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the late Shri Patil had discharged the critical responsibility of Union Home Minister in the government led by Dr Manmohan Singh. At a time when enemies were continuously conspiring against the nation, he discharged his duties as Home Minister with great sensitivity. Representing Latur, late Shri Patil had a long public and political career and played an important role in helping Latur overcome the earthquake tragedy.
Leader of the Opposition Dr Charandas Mahant, remembering his service‑filled political journey, remarked that his passing is a profound loss for all of us. He was a distinguished scholar of law and the Constitution.
