Major Step Towards Financial Reforms in Government Medical Colleges Under Guidence of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai

Raipur, December 3

A significant step has been taken towards financial reforms in the health department under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. In Vishnu’s good governance, the state government is continuously taking policy decisions in the public interest.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, while making efforts in this direction, had put forward his suggestions.

In a meeting of the autonomous societies of 10 government medical colleges in the state, chaired by Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, several important and public interest decisions have been taken today to expand the financial decentralization of medical colleges and affiliated hospitals. These decisions will strengthen the autonomous societies at the college level, reduce dependence on the government for essential tasks, complete essential work on time, and meet immediate needs at the medical college level itself.

Key decisions taken in the meeting:

  • Increased financial powers for medical college principals and hospital superintendents: Previously, they had limited powers for purchasing or repairing essential medicines, medical equipment, and consumables. Now, they will have the authority to make decisions up to Rs. 10 lakh without government approval.
  • Reorganization of autonomous societies: A model draft of autonomous societies has been approved by the administrative department to bring uniformity among the societies. The management committee has been given the authority to approve up to Rs. 2 crore per work.
  • Increased allocation for medical colleges: The allocation of funds from the state budget to medical colleges for medicines, stores, and reagents has been increased from 10% to 25%.
    Benefits of these decisions:
  • Empowerment of autonomous societies: The societies will be able to take timely decisions to improve patient care.
  • Reduced dependency on government: Essential work can be completed more efficiently.
  • Financial decentralization: This will strengthen the financial position of medical colleges.
Overall, these decisions aim to improve the quality of tertiary healthcare services in the state by empowering medical colleges and providing them with the necessary financial resources.
