The women empowerment initiatives run by the Government of Chhattisgarh are now yielding tangible and positive results at the grassroots level. An inspiring example is Mrs. Lalmati from Gamharia village in Jashpur district, who has become a symbol of self-reliance by leveraging various government schemes. With her determination and hard work, she has not only built her own identity but has also inspired other women in her village.
Mrs. Lalmati’s journey is one of transformation — from a daily wage laborer to a successful entrepreneur. Her progress began when she joined the Prajapati Gauri Self-Help Group, through which she started benefiting from government schemes under the Bihan (State Rural Livelihoods Mission). She obtained a loan from the Department of Industries and started a shuttering plate business. Later, in January 2025, she expanded her business further with a loan under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.
Today, Mrs. Lalmati owns over 200 shuttering plates, which she rents out for roofing construction in both private buildings and houses being built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Since February 2025, she has earned approximately ₹35,000 to ₹40,000 from this venture — a figure that continues to grow as more houses are being built in the village under the housing scheme.
Expressing her gratitude toward Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Mrs. Lalmati said, “Had it not been for the support of these government schemes, I wouldn’t have reached where I am today. The government gave us encouragement, provided resources, and showed us a new path.”
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the government’s firm resolve is to ensure that women in rural areas become self-reliant and take a leading role in economic activities. Through schemes like Bihan, Mudra Yojana, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the government is not only offering financial assistance, but also training, technical support, and market access to women.
“Women like Mrs. Lalmati represent the new socio-economic awakening of Chhattisgarh. It is our priority that every woman stands on her own feet, lives with dignity, and becomes a source of inspiration for others,” he added.
