Former US President Barack Obama today said withdrawal from Iranian nuclear deal is a serious mistake that risks eroding America’s credibility.
In a statement after President Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal and signed an executive order imposing new sanctions on Tehran, Mr Obama said, he believes that the decision to put the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), at risk without any Iranian violation of the deal is a serious mistake.
He said, without JCPOA, the US could eventually be left with a losing choice between a nuclear-armed Iran or another war in West Asia.
Mr Obama said the JCPOA was in America’s interest as it has significantly rolled back Iran’s nuclear programme. The Iranian nuclear deal was a signature foreign policy accomplishment of the Obama administration in 2015.
