US sees India as key nation in Asia Pacific region: Pentagon


The United States says, Washington sees India as a key nation in Asia Pacific region. In an interview, Pentagon Spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said, the relationship between India and the United States is on track and Washington has started the process of implementing the designation of India as a major defence partner.

He said, US Secretary of Defence, James Mattis has made the defence relationship with India a top priority and considers India as a pivotal nation in the region. A State Department official said, India is the only country in the world authorised to receive both military and dual-use items under a Validated End User (VEU) programme.

The official said, US supports India’s rise as a net security provider in the region, and the breadth of their defence cooperation, including through the US-India Defence Trade and Technology Initiative, is continually expanding, .
