At least six people were killed when suspected terrorists stormed into a luxury hotel complex in Kenya’s Nairobi on Tuesday, police said.
The Somalia-based militant group al-Shabab is reported to be behind the attack, averred police sources.
The government said all buildings had been secured. Officials and witnesses said at least five people died at a restaurant in the complex, while another person died of their injuries in hospital.
The attack at a hotel is the first in Nairobi since gunmen stormed the city’s Westgate shopping mall in 2013, killing at least 67 people.
Kenya has seen a number of terror attacks in recent years – most notably in areas close to the Somali border and in the country’s capital.
