
In Canada, at least ten people were killed and 15 others injured when a driver rammed his rental van into a crowd of pedestrians in downtown Toronto, police said.
Deputy Police Chief Peter Yuen told reporters that they have taken the driver into custody and it is going to be a complex investigation.The suspect has been named by police as 25-year old Alek Minassian.
Police have not revealed any possible motive of the accused.
It was not immediately clear if the incident was a deliberate act by the driver or a traffic mishap in a mixed commercial and residential area.
The United States and Europe have seen a string of deadly attacks in which vehicles were used to mow down pedestrians.
