Over 90 people were killed and hundreds injured in a powerful earthquake which struck the holiday island of Indonesia’s Lombok yesterday.
National Disaster Agency said, most of the victims in the disaster died in mountainous northern Lombok. It said, thousands of buildings left damaged in the 6.9 magnitude tremor.
About 900 tourists are being evacuated from Indonesia’s tiny Gili Islands today. 200 domestic and foreign tourists had already been taken off the islands. There are 700 more tourists still waiting to be evacuated.
The tremor was also felt on the neighbouring island of Bali. international airport of Bali suffered damage to its terminal but the runway was unaffected and operations had returned to normal.
