Nepal: 1405 candidates file nominations for second and final phase of parliament and assembly elections

In Nepal, 1405 candidates have filed nominations for the second and final phase of parliament and assembly elections. According to the Election Commission of Nepal, 522 candidates submitted their papers for 128 constituencies of House of Representatives and 883 candidates filed nominations for 256 seats of Provincial Assemblies in 45 districts on Thursday.

Candidates can withdraw their names on Sunday and final list of candidates will be published on the same day. Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Former PM and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Former PM and CPN(UML) Chief KP Sharma Oli, Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum President-Upendra Yadav and Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal Praesidium Coordinator- Mahanta Thakur are among prominent candidates filed nominations on Thursday.

Polling for the second and final phase will be held on December 7. The election for the first round is scheduled on 26 November. 702 candidates are in the fray for the first phase for 37 constituencies of House of Representatives and 74 seats of Provincial Assemblies in 32 districts.
