Massive fire at 27-storey apartment in West London


In Britain, at least 30 people were injured in a huge fire that swept through a 27-storey building in London early today. Assistant Director of operations at the London Ambulance Service said they have taken 30 patients to five London hospitals. He said more than 20 ambulance crews as well as a hazardous area response team are at the scene. Police said they are evacuating the block and a number of people are being treated for a range of injuries including two for smoke inhalation.

A statement from the Fire brigade said the fire started from the second floor of the Grenfell Tower, which has 120 flats, on the Lancaster West Estate and spread upto the top. London Fire Brigade assistant commissioner Dan Daly said at least 200 firefighters are battling the blaze,and evacuating residents from the building. Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan tweeted that a major incident has been declared at Grenfell Tower in Kensington. As per information received, debris falling from the building and that explosions were heard along with the sounds of glass breaking.
