Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, says, China’s military will not be allowed to use the island nation’s new harbor built with Chinese funding. Speaking in Tokyo in an interview, he said, Sri Lanka would not allow any other country to use the port for military purposes.
The Prime Minister said, Sri Lanka is asking for help from friendly countries including Japan to further develop his nation’s naval capabilities. China provided about 1.4 billion dollars in loans to build the port. A Chinese company is negotiating with the Sri Lankan Government on the right to operate the port for 99 years.
